Salem Al-Doubi: Ramadan is the Month of Leniency and Mercy

March 20, 2024 / 7:45 PM
Sharjah 24: Sheikh Dr. Salem Al-Doubi, head of the Preaching and Fatwa Section at the Department of Islamic Affairs in Sharjah, is providing a simplified explanation of the meanings and guidelines found within the verses of the Noble Qur'an throughout the month of Ramadan. This is being done through the "Nur Al-Quran" programme, which airs every Monday and Wednesday on Sharjah 24 platforms.
Today's discussion centers around interpreting the Quranic verse: “So whoever among you is ill or on a journey [during them] - then an equal number of days [are to be made up].” And the verse: “Allah intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship”.

The purpose of fasting, as ordained by Allah, is not to cause harm or hunger to individuals. Hence, it is permissible, and at times obligatory, for the sick or travelers to break their fasts. This allowance is rooted in Allah's desire for ease and avoidance of hardship for His followers. Moreover, those unable to fast due to illness or travel are still rewarded for their intentions, as stated by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

This clarification serves to highlight the leniency within Islamic law after specifying the limited days of obligatory fasting. It aims to reassure listeners that fasting isn't mandatory under all circumstances, thereby alleviating any misconceptions about its requirements.
