Sharjah24: The seventh session of the International Photography Festival, Xposure 2023, is hosting a series of inspiring discussions with professional photographers from around the world. One of them featured on the festival’s first day was Ramesh Shukla, an international Indian photographer known for capturing the unforgettable moments during which the UAE Union was formed, as well as the awe-inspiring journey of the UAE’s Rulers.

Ramesh's story and career were showcased in a film that was followed by an intimate interview with his son, Nila Shukla. During the interview, Ramesh shared his memories and famous shots, including the moment he captured the rulers of the UAE coming together to form the UAE Union and the signing of the constitution by the founding father.

Ramesh spoke about his first meeting with the late Sheikh Zayed and how it inspired him to spend his life in the UAE. He remembered how the founding father called him a fannan (an artist), which filled him with indescribable happiness, and made him decide to never leave the country. Shukla also spoke about his appreciation for the cultural life in Sharjah, including his attendance of cultural festivals and his admiration for the emirate's love of art and culture.

Ramesh's discussion was a testament to the power of photography as a tool for capturing memories and inspiring others. It was an opportunity for the audience to learn about the vivacious 84-year-old’s journey and the impact he has had on the cultural heritage of the Emirates.

Ramesh's appreciation for the support of cultural events by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council member and Ruler of Sharjah, was also evident. Despite his age, Ramesh energetically took pictures with everyone in the audience, further demonstrating his passion for photography and the memories he captures through his lens.

Ramesh's inspiring discussion was just one of many that will be held during the festival, providing photographers with the opportunity to share their passion for photography and the impact it has had on their lives and the world.

Until February 15, Stage X, which made a debut this year, has been designed as a platform for an exciting collection of talks and discussions, creative showcases, activations and product reveals, in a bid to offer festival visitors not just the best of photography, but an entire range of stimulating activities to experience and enjoy.
