Sharjah24: The University of Sharjah (UOS ) is preparing to celebrate the 25th anniversary of its inception this October, as a comprehensive academic institution and a pioneer in academia, scientific research and the arts in the UAE and the GCC region, established under the patronage, support and directives of the founder of the university His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.

The UOS will celebrate its Silver Jubilee under the patronage of Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of the Emirate of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah, as it was able to maintain its advancement, development and elevation during these years to a distinguished academic position among the top regional and global universities. 

Mr. Majid Al-Jarwan, Vice Chancellor for Public Relations and Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the Silver Jubilee celebrations, stressed that the university has an exceptional program for the celebration during the current academic year with the participation of all the UOS’s colleges, institutes, centers, departments and students, as well as a number of governmental and private departments and entities, in addition to organizing community initiatives, events and various students activities in celebration of its scientific and research achievements. 

He pointed that the UOS was established in 1997 with four colleges, while in 2002 the number of colleges has increased as the UOS has had eight colleges, and in 2005, it established the Medical Campus, a beacon of medical sciences in the Emirate of Sharjah, including four colleges with classrooms and laboratories well equipped with the latest instructional and educational technology.

Al-Jarwan praised the UOS’s international reputation for scientific and research excellence, which made it a destination for many international academic universities and institutes, through conducting various agreements, conferences and educational seminars, with the participation of international researchers and exchanging visits that the university witnesses every year.

In line with the directives of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, the university has expanded its educational services in its three branches in Khorfakkan, Kalba and Al Dhaid, to provide the best educational environment that suits those areas and for the convenience of its residents, especially students, by giving them the chance of receiving education, which has been done this year through the inauguration of the University of Khorfakkan.

With the continuous implementation of the directives of His Highness the Founder of the University of Sharjah and realization of the importance of scientific research and its role in building generations that are able to serve their countries, the UOS established the College of Graduate Studies, as well as various research institutes and centers to cover all fields of science. Additionally, during the past few years, the university was able to occupy an advanced position among international universities, according to reports issued by international institutions, with the aim of providing the local and regional community with a pioneering group of graduates, researchers and scientists in various academic disciplines.

The UOS has conducted various studies to understand the market needs in light of the technological development that the world is witnessing and the increase in the number of disciplines and the emergence of new job opportunities that require specialized skills. During the new academic year 2022/2023, the UOS offers 112 accredited academic programs in various disciplines including 57 bachelor's degrees, 47 master's degrees, 15 doctorate degrees, and three postgraduate diploma programs.

25 years since the establishment of the UOS, the number of students enrolled at various levels of bachelors, diploma and postgraduate degrees has been increased, as the number of the UOS’s graduates has reached around 40,000 graduates from diverse nationalities and disciplines, who are currently using their professional experiences and knowledge in their field of work and are contributing to the development and prosperity of their countries.
