SEWA intensifies efforts to launch Peak Hour

Sharjah 24: The Conservation Department of the Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) has intensified its efforts to launch the Peak Hour activities, which the Authority organises for the seventh year in a row, from 2.30 pm to 3.30 pm.
The Peak Hour aims to attract the largest number of institutions, government departments, companies and community leaders to participate in supporting the initiative under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.

The initiative also aims to develop awareness among officials, institutions, companies, community leaders and individuals of the importance of energy and water, methods of optimal use, and the need for periodic maintenance of devices and strengthening the capabilities of collective action to confront global warming through rationalising energy consumption and using natural resources in a more conscious manner.

The Conservation Department announced that the number of government and private agencies and commercial centres that will participate in the initiative this year has exceeded 120 along with a large number of community members and some Arab and international institutions and organisations.

Engineer Ghada Juma Salem, Director of the Conservation Department, explained that the interaction of government departments, private companies, establishments and community members, in addition to a number of Arab and international organisations and institutions with the initiative, by switching off unnecessary devices, conducting maintenance work and promoting the initiative, contributes to achieving significant positive results and spreading the culture of rationalisation and preservation of natural resources.

She pointed out that this year, the Authority has launched several different programmes to promote the Peak Hour targeting all groups and sectors of society, including competitions and campaigns on social media and other media channels, and communication with various parties to support and promote the initiative through Zulal factory water bottles.

Moza bin Dakhin, Head of Partnerships and Communications section at the Conservation Department, confirmed that the authority continues to raise awareness about rationalising energy consumption in the Emirate of Sharjah, noting that marking the Peak Hour is one of the important steps towards achieving sustainabilityand an invitation to all, at the local, regional and global levels, to adhere to the principles of optimal use of energy and water, and to reduce carbon emissions, to raise awareness and educate all segments of society about the Peak Hour.
