The agreement is in line with the initial agreement signed by His Highness last August with the Guildford Academy at the University of Surrey. The agreement includes areas of joint cooperation between the Sharjah Academy of Arts and the Guildford Academy, and the establishment of cooperative relations in the academic and educational framework.
The agreement, which was signed by His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and Professor Max Lu, President of the University of Surrey, aims to enhance cooperation and joint work in the field of administrative formation of the Sharjah Academy of Performing Arts project, training programmes and academic qualification for the artistic talents and human cadres specialised in the performing arts, theatre and cinema. Cooperation in such fields helps enrich and prop up Gulf and Arab arena with a creative generation that is aware of the important role art plays in the conveying and expressing the community issues and concerns.
Theatrical and cinema works of all specialisations are to commence at Sharjah Arts Academy; other areas will follow consecutively.
According to the agreement, the first academic programmes in the fields of acting, lyrical acting and directing will be launched in September, to be followed by more programmes in order to activate the important role of the Academy.
During the signing of the agreement, His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah reviewed the building scheme of the Sharjah Academy of Performing Arts, which will include halls and art and academic facilities that will provide a suitable environment for the rehabilitation of specialists in the fields of performing arts, supporting artists and giving those working in the field of arts the opportunity to showcase their artistic innovations.
The building will also include a theatre with the highest artistic standards and spaces for the various shows. It will also include facilities for theatrical services and facilities as well as flexible seats that provide the best way to enjoy the shows.
The signing ceremony was attended by Engineer Ali bin Shaheen Al Suwaidi, Chairman of Sharjah Public Works Department; Director of Sharjah Department of Protocol and Guesthouses, Mohammed Obaid Al Zaabi; Director of the University of Sharjah, Dr. Hamid Majul Al Nuaimi; Chancellor of AUS, Dr. Björn Kjerfve; Director of the Sharjah Research Academy, Dr. Amr Abdulhamid; and several officials.
