Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi also welcomed the appointment of Hassan Yaqoub Al Mansouri as Secretary-General of the Sharjah Media Council (SMC) under Emiri Decree No. 67 of 2017 issued by His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah.
This came during the Council’s latest meeting, chaired by Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi and attended by Dr. Khalid Omar Al Madfa, Mohammed Hassan Khalaf, Tariq Saeed Allay and Hassan Yaqoub Al Mansouri.
Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi reaffirmed the keenness of the Sharjah Media Council to implement the directives of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and to work towards strengthening its role in constructive development and fulfilment of its responsibilities in the interests of the Emirate and the nation.
The SMC, in its commitment and with its programmes and objectives, complements Sharjah's cultural and intellectual message. Its strategy is based on the main media objectives of the UAE, the Chairman of Sharjah Media Council added, stressing the Council’s keenness to consolidate the national identity and preserve authenticity.
He called on members of the Council to focus on strengthening relations with local and international media and on exchanging knowledge and expertise in order to achieve the Council’s objectives and help improve the media performance in the Emirate.
Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi stressed the Council's keenness to unify the media policy and strategy of its affiliate institutions -- Sharjah Government Media Bureau, Sharjah Media Corporation and Sharjah Media City (Shams) Free Zone, in line with the Emirate’s vision and objectives.
The meeting of the Council also saw a review of mechanisms of cooperation with various media outlets and coordination between various media institutions towards the integration of media work and policies in the country.
The meeting discussed strategies and plans for empowering the media sector in the Emirate within the framework of the UAE’s general media policy. It also touched upon ways of coordination with the competent federal authorities towards this end. It highlighted the need to activate media-related legislation in the Emirate and update it in line with the changes in the media landscape in the country, as part of the implementation of the Emiri Decree on the functions and competences of the Sharjah Media Council.
