Sharjah24: As part of the Monday’s cultural platform sessions, Media and Cultural Office of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs (SCFA) in Sharjah, organised a dialogue session touching on “The Culture of Consumer Protection”.
Moderated by Nada Al Shihhi of the Media and Cultural Office at SCFA, the session hosted Dr. Hamad Bilal Al Bulooshi, Vice President of Consumer Protection at Sharjah Economic Development Department (SEDD).

Al Bulooshi first discussed the term “consumer”, explaining what it represents in commercial and legal terminologies. He then explained various differences and similarities of physical and online shopping in legal and commercial senses.

He stressed the keenness of the government to protect the consumers and discussed the effects of COVID-19 pandemic on the shopping experience locally and globally, where electronic shopping is on the rise, which calls for further public awareness towards their rights while shopping online.

Al Bulooshi reminded the attendees that they could use the federal “Manaa” application that protects consumers from the risk of injuries or accidents in term of health and accidents in the field of health and safety and environmental protection through the development of the communications system and the withdrawal and management of products Restricted at the federal level.

In addition, consumers can use the toll free number 8008000 to reach Sharjah Consumer Rights Department and state their claim, he concluded.
