Sharjah24: The Faculty of Medicine in University of Sharjah is hosting the second edition of the Learning Difficulties Conference organised by the Sharjah Centre for Learning Difficulties (SCLD) under the slogan "For a Better Life" for two days.
At the conference, Sharjah24 met with Tom Harkin, Former United States Senator and the author of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.

Harkin lauded the conference describing it as “so important for getting everyone together to develop a comprehensive plan for a better life for young people with disabilities.”

He explained that his work is more related to later stages of the lives of people with disabilities as he focuses on jobs and employment.

However, for that to happen, he argued that this segment first need education and support for children who learn differently and that is what the Sharjah Centre for Learning Difficulties is doing.

“It is preparing young people with disabilities to lead productive lives when they are older,” he elaborated.

He concluded by lauding the developments he witnessed in the UAE as this is the second visit for him where the first one was over 20 years ago.
