Fire in German home for elderly kills one, wounds 23

Sharjah24 – dpa: A fire in a retirement home in central Germany killed one person and injured 23 others, fire services said on Monday.

At least six people were seriously injured by smoke inhalation, the emergency services said, after the fire in the city of Offenbach.

The blaze began in the early hours of Monday on the second floor of the building, but the cause of the fire was not yet known. 

The dead victim's identity had not been established due to the severity of the burns, but police said it was likely to be a resident in the home.
