Sharjah 24 – KUNA: The US, on Tuesday, imposed sanctions on Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro's regime members, said US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
In a statement, Pompeo reiterated his country's position in supporting the President of the National Assembly, Juan Guaido, whom Washington considers the interim president of the country.

"The sanctions were imposed on five people involved in the illegal attempts by the Maduro regime to corrupt democratic elections in Venezuela," said Pompeo.

He stressed that the decision reaffirms the commitment of the US to strengthening accountability for all those who seek to undermine democracy and rob Venezuela's democratic future.

According to the statement, this measure comes in the wake of the sanctions announced on September 4 against other key illegal members of the Maduro regime.
