Sharjah 24: Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Emirates Society for Consumer Protection (ESCP) to promote cooperation between the two sides in the field of protecting consumer rights and developing the national economy.
The MoU also aims at coordinating efforts between the SCCI and the ESCP and exchanging expertise in activities and programmes, as well as enhancing the constructive partnership between the two sides through drafting a joint work mechanism that will improve the legal culture of the consumers in the UAE.

Abdullah Al Owais, SCCI Chairman; Mohammed Khalifa Al Muhairi, Chairman of the ESCP and Mohammed Ahmed Amin, Acting Director General of SCCI witnessed the signing, which took place at SCCI headquarters on Wednesday.

Commenting on the agreement, Al Owais said that the signing of the MoU is part of the SCCI’s constant keenness to establish cooperation and integration with the federal and local authorities underlining the attention the UAE attaches to protecting the rights of consumers in various fields, pointing out that the UAE is among the advanced countries that have taken important measures to protect consumer rights, to which end it has updated its laws and legislation.

For his part, Al Muhairi said that the agreement stems from ESCP’s interest to build bridges of cooperation and enhance ties with the concerned agencies associated with consumer protection and rights, and contribute to realising the aspirations of our wise leadership.

Pursuant to the agreement, SCCI and ESCP agreed, among other issues, to exchange experiences, knowledge and continuous cooperation in order to achieve the vision and objectives of the two sides in the field of consumer protection, and to benefit from the expertise and potential of both parties through participation in all seminars, conferences, exhibitions and training courses organised by both sides.
