Sharjah 24: The Forensic Laboratory Department of the Sharjah Police General Command (SP) added a new achievement to its previous accomplishments, as its work teams were able to discover five modern types of synthetic cannabis drugs known as (Spice), through their analyzes, experiments and research practices, using the latest scientific and technical methods. In addition to exploiting all capabilities and modern technologies and benefiting from the human energies of people with competence in the field of crime fighting, in order to achieve SP’s objectives, which are consistent with the strategic goal of the Ministry of Interior aimed at strengthening security and safety.

Colonel Engineer Adel Ahmed Al Mazmi, Acting Head of the Forensic Laboratory Department at Sharjah Police (SP), stated that such achievement in tracking transformative processes in the field of narcotic substances comes because of the careful research efforts made by experts and technicians in the Forensic Laboratory Department, making use of modern and advanced equipment owned by the department. 

Colonel Engineer Adel Ahmed Al Mazmi continued that the department discovered five types of (Spice), which are types of manufactured cannabinoids, as part of the multiple research efforts that the laboratory is working on. This is a qualitative leap in the detection of the manufacturing methods used by promoters, along with strengthening the efforts of the security authorities in combating them, limiting the spread of drugs, and achieving protection and prevention for community members from its dangers.

Colonel Al Mazmi added that work is underway on a draft law to include these substances in the schedules of the federal law on narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, and their inclusion is considered a new way to limit its spread in the country.
