Sharjah 24 – KUNA: Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri on Tuesday demanded the halt of escalation against the Palestinian people.
This came during Shoukri's speech at a virtual meeting of the Arab foreign ministers that was held to discuss the Israeli violations and attacks in East Al Quds, upon a request of Palestine. Shoukri further asked the Israeli authorities to assume their responsibilities, in accordance with the rules of international law, to provide necessary protection for Palestinian civilians and preserve their rights to freely and safely practice their religious rituals.

"Egypt calls on Israel to stop any practices that violate the sanctity of Al-Aqsa Mosque, target the Arab identity of Al Quds City and its sanctities or seek to the forced displacement of the Palestinians from the city, mainly Sheikh Jarrah's neighboring", Shoukri said.

He said that "Egypt completely rejects and condemns these brutal Israeli practices, considering them as a violation of international law and undermining of the opportunities of finding a two-state solution as well as a grave threat to the bases of security and stability in the region".

Shoukri called on the Arab countries to maintain unity and cooperation on this "critical phase" to face any plan aiming to alter the status quo of Al Quds and make all sincere efforts to help the Palestinians establish their state and have their rights.

He emphasised that "the policy of imposing a fait accompli and resorting to excessive force Israel has consistently pursued has proven the failure to achieve security in the region".

The minister noted that the Arab interest in what is happening in Al Quds - on both popular and official levels - is the biggest message confirming that Palestine has been remaining the central cause of the Arabs.
