Colonel Ashour: Iftar cannon is part of popular heritage

Sharjah 24: Colonel Ashour Sabt bin Ashour, Director of the Special Tasks Department of Sharjah Police, confirmed that the Iftar cannon is part of popular heritage that has been passed down to generations over the past.
Colonel Ashour stressed that the United Arab Emirates in general and the Emirate of Sharjah in particular have preserved this heritage.

The Director of the Special Tasks Department of Sharjah Police added that the timing that the Iftar cannon is fired comes before the Maghrib prayer, with one shot that signals the time for Iftar.

He indicated that the occasion is prepared in a long period of work, maintaining that all the cannons in the Sharjah Police General Command are checked for their readiness.

He noted that, before the COVID-19 pandemic, 11 cannons were distributed to various regions and locations of the Emirate of Sharjah. This occasion is broadcasted to display the joy of members of the community and fans of this event. 

He pointed out that in order to preserve the health and safety of community members, the Sharjah Police decided to allocate one site to launch the cannon in coordination with the concerned authorities, to whish Al Majaz Waterfront was chosen for its beauty and stunning view.

Concluding his statement, the Director of the Special Tasks Department of Sharjah Police wished health and safety for all.
