Sharjah Eyes Expansion of Healthy Cities Program

Sharjah24: The Executive Committee for Expanding the Scope of Healthy Cities in Sharjah held its third meeting yesterday (Thursday, May 23) at the headquarters of the Sharjah Health Authority to discuss the latest developments and progress in the implementation of the World Health Organisation (WHO)’s Healthy City program.
His Excellency Dr. Abdelaziz Al Muhairi, Chairman of the Sharjah Health Authority and Chairman of the Executive Committee for Expanding the Scope of Healthy Cities in the Emirate of Sharjah, called for concerted efforts to expand the scope of Healthy Cities program to include the cities of Khorfakkan, Kalba, Al Dhaid and other cities of the emirate in the future. 

During the Executive Committee meeting, Dr Al Muhairi reviewed the Sharjah Executive Council’s decision approving the expansion of the geographical scope of Healthy Cities Program to include the Emirate’s major cities of Khorfakkan, Kalba, and Al Dhaid.

Dr Al Muhairi pointed out that the Emirate of Sharjah is diligently working to provide the highest levels of services and health standards with the aim of ensuring the well-being of the residents of Sharjah. 

He lauded the various achievements and initiatives byvarious government agencies and departments in the Emirate that have contributed to achieving the objectives of the program and providing a sustainable healthy environment to all the residents in the emirate according to the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.

The Sharjah Health Authority head called for forming coordination committees for each of the three cities and organising interactive and in-person workshops to traincommittee members to work on meeting the WHO criteria and standards in accordance with the highest levels of quality. 

Sharjah is expanding the scope of healthy cities throughout the emirate by strengthening institutional and community partnerships, by raising the level of participation and interaction, and by expanding the scope of Sharjah’s adoption of Healthy City model by updating and defining its strategies, added Dr Al Muhairi.

The Chairman lauded the efforts of all individuals and institutions in supporting the directions and initiatives of the Emirate’s leadership and its keenness to implement strategic plans in order to meet the requirements and standards of the Sharjah Healthy City program in accordance with the WHO guidelines.
