Sharjah 24: The Comic Station at the ongoing Sharjah Children's Reading Festival (SCRF) has emerged as a vibrant hub for the artsy and quaint. Ingeniously designed to immerse visitors in a world of comic-inspired themes, this section of the festival offers a captivating backdrop that transports children and adults alike into a whimsical comic realm.
On Thursday, this section buzzed with excitement as it hosted a Cosplay Helmet-making workshop, drawing an enthusiastic crowd of schoolchildren, mainly preteens, from various educational institutions.

Each child was handed thick craft paper, and over the next 20 minutes, the room was filled with focused concentration and joyful discovery. The instructor guided the participants through a series of folds, transforming the simple sheets into exquisite 3D Japanese Samurai Helmets. These helmets, known as Kabuto, were traditionally worn by samurai warriors and perfectly complemented the workshop’s theme.

“Origami isn't just about folding paper; it's a gateway to developing critical skills. This ancient art enhances spatial awareness, memory, and hand-eye coordination. It also nurtures fine motor skills and concentration, making it an enriching experience for the young attendees," said Maha Almheiri, the instructor from Rewire International, on the benefits of such creative undertakings.

This year's Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival is a spectacle of learning and fun, curated by the Sharjah Book Authority. With over 1,500 activities and the participation of more than 180 publishers, the festival ensures a rich programme teeming with educational opportunities. Throughout the week, the event spaces are alive with the sounds of excitement and laughter, with a significant turnout from local schools.

Students are diving into a plethora of experiences, and creating lasting memories that extend far beyond the typical reading sessions commonly associated with literary festivals.

The festival serves as a cultural feast for visitors of all ages, from the youngest children to adults. Each activity is crafted to engage, educate, and inspire, making it a cornerstone event in the cultural calendar of Sharjah.
