Sharjah 24 – Reuters: The US military has initiated the construction of a maritime pier to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid into Gaza, as announced by the Pentagon on Friday. This development, anticipated following President Joe Biden's March announcement, aims to establish a temporary port on Gaza's Mediterranean coast, operational by early May.
The initiative responds to the pressing need to address famine in the Palestinian enclave, exacerbated by the ongoing military campaign against Hamas. Major General Patrick Ryder confirmed the involvement of US military vessels, including the USNS Benavidez, in the initial stages of constructing the temporary pier and causeway at sea.

Despite facing logistical challenges, such as a recent mortar attack near the construction area, efforts persist to provide relief supplies to Gaza and ensure their safe distribution within the territory. This endeavor underscores the ongoing commitment to humanitarian assistance and the alleviation of suffering in the region.
