Sharjah Basketball Championship to kick off February 29th

Sharjah24: The fourth edition of the Sharjah International Basketball Championship for Men will kick off on February 29th, under the patronage of Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and Chairman of the Executive Council.
The announcement was made by Sharjah Sports Club, and the tournament will be hosted at the Sharjah Sports Club's Al Shurooq Castle, with the support of the Sharjah Sports Council. The championship will take place from February 29th to March 5th, and will feature the participation of six Arab clubs, including Sharjah and Al Batayeh from the UAE, and Al Wahda and Al-Ittihad Aleppo from Syria, as well as the Antonins and Homenetmen from Lebanon.

Tournament Format:
The competition will feature two groups, with three teams in each group, playing a round-robin format in the first round. The winners of each group will directly qualify for the semi-finals. The second-placed team from Group 1 will play against the third-placed team from Group 2 (Match 1), while the second-placed team from Group 2 will play against the third-placed team from Group 1 (Match 2). The winners of these matches will advance to the final four, where the Group 1 winner will face the winner of Match 2, and the Group 2 winner will face the winner of Match 1.

Previous Champions:
The Sharjah men's basketball team previously won the championship in the second edition, defeating the Egyptian team Al Gezira in February 2014. The first edition of the Sharjah International Basketball Championship for Men was won by Lebanese team Al Chabib in 2010. The most recent edition of the tournament in November 2014 was won by the Saudi team Al-Nasr.
