Sharjah24: In the presence of Sheikh Fahim Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Department of Government Relations (DGR) in Sharjah, Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah (UOS) and Prof. Ricardo Villanueva Lomelí, President of the University of Guadalajara (UDG) have signed a cooperation agreement, within the activities of the Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL) in Mexico.

The agreement included offer training opportunities, exchange students, faculty members, knowledge and expertise in various scientific fields , organise joint international scientific seminars and conferences, propose and discuss future joint research projects. 

The signing was attended by His Excellency, Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, Chairman of the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), Prof. Maamar Bettayeb, Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Studies, Dr. Amina Al Marzouqi, Assistant Chancellor of Branch Affairs, and Dr. Tarek Merabtene, Director of the Office of International Relations, UoS. In addition to the attendance of Dr. Héctor Raul Solis, Vice President of UDG, Mexico and a number of the university’s faculty and administrative members. 

On the sideline of signing the agreement, Sheikh Fahim Al Qasimi praised the cooperation that strengthen the cultural and scientific ties between the Mexican city of Guadalajara and the Emirate of Sharjah. For his part, Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of UoS, thanked the University of Guadalajara for the hospitality and reception, asserting that the UoS through this agreement aims to confirm the bonds of cooperation with one of the largest universites in Mexico, pointing out that with the support and guidance of Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, President of the UoS, the University seeks to offer the best training opportunities for its students and exchange of expertise with the best international universities, stating that the UoS is currently ranked the first place in scientific research and innovation at the UAE level and the 5th in the Arab World. 

Dr. Ricardo Villanueva Lomeli, President of the University of Guadalajara, praised the cooperation with UoS as one of the leading universities at the international level and a comprehensive acedamic institution that offers various programs in a wide range of scientific disciplines.

The University’s delegation, headed by the UoS’s Chancellor visited the University of Guadalajara, during which they were received by the University’s President and a large number of directors of research centers and faculty member, in which they discussed the steps and executive procedures to follow up the activation of the agreement terms and achieve its goals. Furthermore, the delegation visited a number of the University’s facilities and laboratories including the high performance computing laboratory which will be used by UoS’s researchers to conduct joint research.

On the other hand, the Head of Prospective and Planning Unit of Hidalgo Government received Prof. Maamar Bettayeb, Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Studies, and Dr. Tarek Merabtene, Director of the Office of International Relations, in the presence of Alejandro Franco, Coordinator for International Cooperation and Dr. Francisco Cardona, Head of Council of Science, Technology and Innovation of Hidalgo, to ratify the joint cooperation agreement, in which they discussed cooperation in several areas including technology, innovation, alternative, renewable and biological energy, artificial intelligence and blockchain, thereafter, they toured HIDALGO Innovation Technology Park.
