SEWA launches professional code of conduct

Sharjah 24: Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) launched the professional code of conduct, with the aim of developing the institutional culture of employees, supporting professional values and developing spirit of responsibility. The professional code of conduct aims to positively reflect on productivity and ensure the promotion of ethical standards and professional values for employees leading to raising performance based on SEWGA vision and strategy and keenness to reach standards of excellence and quality to serve community members.
His Excellency Saeed Al Suwaidi, Chairman of SEWGA, explained that the code of conduct document has been prepared as a knowledge base for all employees working in the authority. 

His Excellency Saeed Al Suwaidi pointed out that the document included a number of basic values for professional behaviour and work ethics, including honesty, objectivity, impartiality, integrity, loyalty, efficiency, excellence, leadership, transparency, justice and equality.

Al Suwaidi stressed that a series of virtual training workshops were held for all job levels, to familiarise employees with the principles and values contained in the document and to listen to their opinions and observations, noting that SEWA obligations to the document included informing all employees of the rules of work ethics and job behaviour contained in the document, and introducing them to the behaviours to be taken into account while performing their tasks and duties. 

The document also included a number of duties that managers must abide by, including adherence to the values of the general framework of job ethics and work behaviour, and to be a good example to employees.

Al Suwaidi explained that the document enhances the positive behaviour of employees in dealing with co-workers, and those who deal with SEWGA. The document also works to consolidate the spirit and values of tolerance, respect and appreciation for different cultures and affiliations. The document also calls for providing the best services to recipients, enhancing confidence and credibility in services provided by SEWGA.  The document included a number of duties and obligations to be fulfilled by employees, including compliance with laws, documenting work and performance efficiency. It also included a policy for dealing with social media and a number of general principles related to privacy, confidentiality of information, preservation of public money, conflict of interests, preservation of public property, and observance of employee safety and safety of others. 

Al Suwaidi added that the commitment to what was stated in this document will have a significant impact on employees, whereas they will gain the respect and appreciation of others, including heads, subordinates, colleagues and the public, and it has an impact on SEWA by improving its performance and distinction and increasing its competitiveness among other entities.
