Sultan bin Ahmed attends a lecture by Estonian President at UoS

Sharjah 24: Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah (UoS), attended Monday afternoon, a scientific lecture delivered by Dr. Alar Karis, the Estonian President, titled "The Role of Biotechnology in Modern Society", at Al Biruni Hall at the University of Sharjah.
At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Hamid Majul Al Nuaimi, Director of the University of Sharjah, welcomed the Estonian President’s visit to the UoS, introducing him as one of the prominent scientists in many fields of technology and science, and thanking him for the important lecture.

During his lecture, Dr. Karis addressed the different roles that biotechnology plays as one of the modern fields, and through its interactive applications, in providing many smart solutions to the challenges facing societies in various health and medical fields, in addition to their contribution to the development of scientific research, explaining that there are severala systems the advanced technologies according to which scientific and medical institutions work to preserve cells in special ways and to develop related future research on them.

The Estonian President also addressed the importance of developing work in the fields of biotechnology as one of the advanced and important fields of knowledge that the world is heading to, due to its great benefits to societies, especially in terms of combating various diseases, pointing to the importance of the scientific results provided by this research in identifying everything related to microbiology. This is in addition to laboratories specialised in genetics research and human body systems, which contribute to providing solutions and treatments for various types of genetic diseases facing humans.

During the lecture, the Estonian President stressed that the contribution and participation of the private sector in the development of knowledge about biotechnology has become important, and some challenges facing its work, such as legal aspects and confidentiality of research, must be considered, pointing out that the Republic of Estonia has an applied and advanced experience in this field that has benefited the local community and research institutions in providing and analysing information.

Concluding his lecture, the President of the Republic of Estonia indicated that cooperation between the University of Sharjah and the universities of the Republic of Estonia is continuing in the fields of biotechnology, which contributes to increasing knowledge in this field, benefiting from its modern technologies, and providing solutions and knowledge to the world.
