Sharjah 24: To commemorate World Poetry Day, Poetry Houses will organise a range of cultural events.

According to Abdullah Al Owais, Chairman of Sharjah Department of Culture (SDC), "assigning cultural activities by poetry houses in commemoration of World Poetry Day emphasises the importance of poetry as the (historical) canon of Arabs and a vital tributary to Arab cultural growth."

Poetry is an outgrowth of Sharjah's cultural mission, which aims to promote cultural movement, and it is a civilised discourse that emits a creative energy with an aesthetic meaning rich in imagery and literary metaphor.

On the 22nd of this month, Sharjah's House of Poetry will host a poetry event in celebration of International Poetry Day, with poets from the UAE, Tunisia, Lebanon, and Jordan.

The Luxor Forum for Arab Poetry is being hosted by the House of Poetry in Luxor, Egypt, during a three-day period beginning March 22, with the participation of twenty poets and four critics.

In Mauritania, the Nouakchott House of Poetry will host a symposium titled "Critical Approaches" on March 10 and a poetry evening on March 21.

In Morocco, the House of Poetry in Marrakech is hosting a number of notable events, including poetry readings' session to commemorate International Women's Day on March 8, six poetry gatherings to mark the anniversary of the World Poetry Day on March 21-22, and poetry writing workshops for children and young adults.

Tunisia's House of Poetry in Kairouan hosts poetry nights with poets from several Tunisian cities.

In the Jordanian city of Mafraq, the house of poetry hosts poetry evenings in collaboration with local cultural institutions, while in Khartoum, Sudan's capital, World Poetry Day Forums will be held.
