Sharjah24: Starting on Monday, almost 40 businesses from the Spanish region of Murcia will participate in Expo 2020 Dubai. There are 70 people in the Region’s entourage, including business people from the footwear, contract furniture and furnishings, and agro-food and agricultural technology sectors.
They will be joined by Ms. Valle Miguélez, regional minister of Enterprise, Employment, Universities and Spokesperson Región of Murcia; Joaquín Gómez, director of Instituto de Fomento (INFO); technical staff from INFO; representatives of the Chambers of Commerce of Murcia, Cartagena and Lorca; representatives of the Port of Cartagena; and representatives of the Regional Confederation of Business Organisations (Croem), the Cartagena District Confederation of Business Organisations (Coec) and the Lorca District Confederation of Business Organisations (Ceclor).

Everything that the Region of Murcia has to offer in terms of business, culture, tourism and gastronomy will be put proudly on display at Expo Dubai. A busy schedule of meetings has also been drawn up to generate business opportunities and attract inward investment.

Regional minister Valle Miguélez has pointed out that “the schedule focuses on meetings designed to reach agreements and alliances that will establish new trade relationships between local companies and businesses from the Region of Murcia, consolidate existing relationships and attract inward investment that will generate quality employment and grow our business fabric.”

The Spain Pavilion will host the Region of Murcia Week from Monday to Wednesday. Activities will kick off tomorrow when a container of regional produce from Agromark arrives at Al Aweer Fruit and Vegetables Market. The official schedule will continue on Monday when the Region of Murcia flag is raised and this will be followed by three days of diverse cultural and gastronomic activities. Among other scheduled activities, Carlos Piñana will give guitar concerts and there will be a food tasting event with produce from Murcia, plus show cooking by José Miguel Cremades from Grupo Cangreja and Juan Guillamón from Alma Mater restaurant.

On Monday, there will also be an event focusing on intelligent management of water and how this resource is utilised in the Caribbean, the Mediterranean and the Arabian Gulf. It will be followed by a round table event on water and sustainability.

Tuesday will focus on technical meetings with local leaders from the United Arab Emirates and investment fund managers. The aim is to attract inward investment and facilitate new lines of business. Potential investors will also enjoy a seminar about the Region of Murcia.

The slogan for Murcia’s presence at Expo Dubai is ‘What water gives us’. It marks Murcia’s trajectory along social and economic facets of water utilisation, which is very much in keeping with the theme of the Expo: sustainability and caring for the environment.
