Xposure 2022: When the wheelchair becomes the tripod

February 14, 2022 / 3:55 PM
Sharjah 24: A monochromatic image of two Arabian gazelles locking horns, on display at the ongoing Xposure International Photography Festival at Expo Centre Sharjah, attests to Emirati photographer Mohammed Al Balushi’s love of capturing wildlife.
Al Balushi, who also loves to take cityscape and landscape images, is no ordinary photographer. A car accident in 2003 had left him incapacitated, and today, he has made his wheelchair his tripod.

On his visit to Xposure 2022, the 39-year-old, narrated how it was the art of photography that eased him out of the emotional turmoil following the aftermath of the accident. Al Balushi, who first took to capturing images under the guidance of a government-organised photography workshop, has since developed his skills and leads workshops on photography for corporates and schools.

The Dubai resident says he prepares himself well before attending any photographic assignment, conducting proper research to capture the best images possible. Today, Al Balushi never leaves home without his camera and SD card.
