Sharjah 24: Sharjah Police General Command, represented by the Punitive and Correctional Establishment, in collaboration with the General Department of Correctional and Punitive Institution, launched a rehabilitation project for the institution’s inmates who are about to be released and for their families in cooperation with the Department of Social Services in Sharjah, in the presence of Colonel Mona Sorour Al Shuwaihi, Deputy Director of the General Department of Correctional and Punitive Institution.
Colonel Mona Alshuwaihi said that the project included two categories, namely, the category of the inmates to be released, and the category of inmates’ families, with the aim of achieving a good psychological, social and health life by ensuring that inmates have stronger interaction with their family, which allows them to be productive members in the community.

Colonel Mona Alshuwaihi revealed a variety of reform and rehabilitation programmes targeting inmates who are about to be released, to qualify them to face life, to be reintegrated in the society, enable them to manage family life, and remove the barriers of fear and hesitation that may haunt them after being released.

Such programmes included dialogue and guidance electronic sessions using the distance learning system, and special courses on anger management, stress management, life planning, and a number of programmes related to family management and social intelligence.

The inmates families’ part contributes to raising the inmate's family awareness to contain them after release, to stand by them and relieve their pressure, and to provide a safe family environment where stability prevails.

Colonel Mona Alshuwaihi stressed that Sharjah Police General Command is keen to observe the human and legal rights of inmates; apply best practices in the field of reforming, rehabilitating and reintegrating inmates into society; provide services that enhance the quality of life of inmates, released prisoners and their families; and develop the necessary strategies to achieve this goal.
