Sharjah24: The completion rate of the strategic plan for "Age-friendly Cities" has reached 97%, since the Government of Sharjah announced its joining the global network of Age-friendly cities from 2017 until the end of 2020. And the establishment of an Age-friendly Sharjah office to follow up on the implementation of the terms and conditions required to sustain its membership.

The Emirate of Sharjah is the first Arab city to join this global network, and the outcomes of the strategic plan 2017-2020, which consists of several initiatives that included strategic activities implemented by government agencies in the Emirate of Sharjah, resulted in some initiatives that were able to achieve with a large achievement rate.

It includes the goals and objectives of the strategic plan 2021-2023, which are reflected in creating an optimal environment that allows senior citizens to benefit from its resources easily and improve the quality of life for them by adapting all possibilities to perform all activities and services that ensure their integration into society.

The strategy includes many activities, in which government agencies played a major role as partners in its success, and included a number of objectives, to develop Age-sensitive initiatives and services, enhancing the responsibility of the private sector towards senior citizens, spreading the culture of standards for age-friendly cities in Sharjah, and raising community awareness about age-observance. 

The Sharjah office has developed a realistic and ambitious strategic plan, with the joint efforts of the heads, directors and officials of various government and private agencies in the Emirate of Sharjah, in which it volunteered all possibilities to perform all activities and services according to the available resources, which ensure the integration of senior citizens into society.
