SEC adopts the "Occupational Safety and Health standard"

Sharjah 24: When it comes to inspiring quotes, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah said that in Sharjah, Man will remain the corner stone of our work, and our bet on energy and human wealth in construction, sustainability and progress. His Highness quote was reflected in His view on the issuance of the Emiri Decree No. (15) of 2014, to establish the Sharjah Prevention and Safety Authority (SPSA) which aims to protect society and facilities from accidents to achieve public safety.
Pursuant to the directives of His Highness, Sharjah Executive Council (SEC) headed by Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of Sharjah Executive Council issued Resolution No. (15) on Sharjah Occupational Safety and Health Standard, which aims to enhance safety in the work environment through Implementing preventive measures to protect the safety of workers, assets and properties.

His Excellency Sheikh Eng. Khalid bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Prevention and Safety Authority, stated that the authority continuously seeks to ensure the safety of all workers and those affected by employers’ activities, in all Sharjah establishments. 

His Excellency explained that the standard is the first of its kind in the UAE, and includes government agencies and private establishments. The standard provides a detailed guideline informing employers on the best ways to carry out hasardous activities in order to avoid accidents. The standard is designed based on best international practices in the field of occupational safety and health.

His Excellency Sheikh Saif bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Director of the Prevention and Safety Authority, stressed the importance of the Sharjah Occupational Safety and Health standard, aiming to ensure the protection of lives and property, and the safety of all individuals, working in various vital sectors in Sharjah.

Eng. Musab Al-Amin, Acting Director of Standards and Conformity Department at SPSA, explained that 24 government agencies participated in reviewing  the listed hasardous activities in Sharjah, which made the standard’s requirements meet the Sharjah need for managing hasardous activities. The standard includes a mechanism for reporting work accidents in order to set procedures to prevent such occurrences.
